Ok so the title of this recipe is somewhat misleading. I even had a comment on facebook saying, well “add an extra 2cm on the hips” – and I can see why, to look at this smoothie, you would think that. But, excitingly – NO!!… This will NOT add an extra 2cm… It is sweetened only by a couple of dates. With raw cacao, it’s packed full of antioxidants and magnesium (for stress release – because… well you know…), protein from almond butter and raw egg (it’s biodynamic, and I PROMISE you can’t taste it) and will keep you full until lunchtime. But more importantly, when waking up feeling just not quite 100% – and feeling like a treat – this totally fits the bill. Chocolate for breakfast feels naughty but in this case ISN’T remotely. Plus it’s easy – yay!!…
Ingredients (serves 2-3)
75g raw almonds
5 small pitted dates, or 2-3 pitted Medjool dates
2 frozen bananas
2 raw, biodynamic eggs (optional – leave this if it grosses you out. However you CANNOT taste them and it just adds that extra bit of protein to keep you fuller for longer)
4 tbsp raw cacao powder
I used a Thermomix but the instructions will be the same for a high speed blender. Throw in the almonds and dates and blend until you have an almond butter-ish consistency. Add water and blend again – this will make the most heavenly almond milk base with not too many crunchy bits, and saves straining if the butter is quite smooth to begin with. Add bananas and blend until smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend again!! Simple!!… Sprinkle some coconut flakes on top, or mix into the smoothie if you are a coconut lover – this makes quite a thick and very filling smoothie – 2 large serves or 3 medium. So easy and delicious! Enjoy – x.
